Florida Hometown Heroes in 2026: benefits, eligibility, and what to verify
Florida Housing lists 2026 program terms for eligible workers, service members, and veterans. The official page does not show a live funding balance, so availability must be confirmed before relying on the assistance.

What Florida Housing confirms for 2026
Florida Housing's 2026 Hometown Heroes page says eligible borrowers may receive down payment and closing cost assistance equal to 5% of the first mortgage amount, with a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $35,000. The assistance must be paired with an eligible FHA, VA, USDA-RD, or conventional first mortgage through the program.
The assistance is a 0% interest, non-amortizing, 30-year deferred second mortgage. It is not forgivable and becomes due in full after a sale, first-mortgage refinance, deed transfer, or when the home is no longer the borrower's primary residence.

The 2026 occupational categories are specific
The 2026 program is limited to income-qualified first-time buyers in listed workforce groups. Florida Housing identifies health care workers, school staff, first responders, public safety workers, court employees, child care workers, eligible military service members, and qualifying veterans. Most civilian categories require current full-time employment by a Florida-based eligible employer.
- Use the official eligible-employer and occupation guide instead of relying only on a job title.
- Confirm first-time buyer status, income, property, occupancy, and first-mortgage requirements for the specific file.

County and loan limits still matter
Florida Housing's 2026 income and maximum-loan-limit document applies to reservations from May 6, 2026. Limits vary by county and household or program factors, so a statewide benefit description is not an eligibility decision. Check the current official table for the county where the home will be purchased.

Verify funding and the participating lender before relying on the program
The official 2026 program page describes benefits and links to a lender locator, but it does not display a live remaining-funds balance. A February 27, 2026 Florida Housing release separately states that all funding for the 2025–2026 cycle had been committed. The presence of 2026 guidance by itself is therefore not confirmation that a new reservation is available today.
Before making an offer or changing cash-to-close plans, confirm current reservation availability with an approved participating lender. The official sources reviewed here do not establish that Bravo is a participating lender or that a particular applicant will qualify.
